Revisión de las acciones para prevenir infecciones en la artroplastía total de cadera

RESUMEN
El uso de profilaxis antibiótica durante las artroplastías de cadera ha sido motivo de debate continuo. La prevención de las infecciones postquirúrgicas es de materia compleja y aún requiere de mayor investigación. Es indispensable aplicar principios quirúrgicos básicos con el fin de optimizar las condiciones de la herida quirúrgica, respuesta inmune y disminución de una posible contaminación durante el período preoperatorio y postoperatorio para reducir la frecuencia de infecciones. Se presenta un estudio retrospectivo del esquema antibiótico y complicaciones infecciosas en 532 artroplastías de cadera realizadas en el Centro Médico ABC de Enero de 1999 a Julio de 2003. El principal antibiótico utilizado fue cefalotina en 53.76%, sin embargo sólo en 3.2 se utilizó el esquema corto recomendado en la literatura, con un aflojamiento séptico de 3.9%.
