Radiocirugía con gamma knife para enfermedad de Parkinson

RESUMEN
La enfermedad de Parkinson es una enfermedad degenerativa y progresiva de los núcleos de la base caracterizada por la pérdida de células dopaminérgicas de la pars compacta de la sustancia negra. Las opciones actuales de tratamiento quirúrgico de la enfermedad de Parkinson incluyen neuromodulación, lesión por radiofrecuencia y lesión por radiocirugía. El objetivo de la radiocirugía es la producción de una lesión necrótica predecible mediante dosis muy elevadas de radiación ionizante, similar a lo que se logra con la radiofrecuencia. Los blancos que han sido utilizados en el tratamiento quirúrgico de la enfermedad de Parkinson incluyen al tálamo, globo pálido interno, núcleo subtalámico y radiaciones prelemniscales. No todos estos blancos se utilizan en radiocirugía.
