Introducción
El uso de agentes intravenosos, ecorrealzadores o agentes de contraste ultrasónico, en la ecocardiografía, está disponible desde hace varios años, con distintos grados de complejidad y variadas aplicaciones Su uso está bien establecido en el caso de preparados artesanales (PESDA). Sin embargo en la última década, importantísimos avances se han producido en la elaboración de nuevos agentes, de sofisticadas propiedades, así como en la tecnología de ultrasonido, modificando sustancialmente las posibilidades de aplicación de estos agentes.
El vertiginoso avance de estos desarrollos y la constante evolución de la tecnología, sin una adecuada sistematización, han contribuido a una amplia confusión respecto a las posibilidades de aplicación
en la clínica cardiológica y a confundir a los usuarios potenciales en el terreno asistencial, lo que hasta el momento ha dificultado una mayor aplicación, particularmente en Latinoamérica.
