Epidemiología del virus de la hepatitis C en niños

RESUMEN
La infección por el virus de la hepatitis C representa un problema de salud pública que afecta a todos los grupos poblacionales en el mundo, y los servicios de salud están ya enfrentando serios retos debidos a la carga epidemiológica y financiera condicionada por la prevalencia e incidencia del padecimiento. La hepatitis C crónica es una de las principales causas de enfermedad hepática crónica en los adultos. En los niños, la infección es menos frecuente y presenta diferencias en su modo de adquisición, características epidemiológicas, curso clínico, criterios diagnósticos y manejo terapéutico. El propósito de esta revisión es examinar los aspectos epidemiológicos de la infección por el VHC en población pediátrica, detallando la magnitud y factores de riesgo asociados, así como los retos de vigilancia epidemiológica del padecimiento, se pretende contribuir con ello a un mejor entendimiento del problema en México.
