Crioterapia en pacientes intervenidos quirúrgicamente por artroscopia de rodilla

RESUMEN
El dolor y la inflamación son complicaciones frecuentes de la artroscopia de rodilla que pueden causar inhibición del mecanismo extensor y, eventualmente, retraso en la rehabilitación. La crioterapia ha sido utilizada durante muchos años como modalidad terapéutica para disminuir inflamación y dolor de rodillas. Sin embargo, en la literatura médica, existe poca evidencia de los efectos benéficos para apoyar esta práctica. Este estudio examinó comparativamente los efectos de la crioterapia en el tratamiento de dolor e inflamación de 87 pacientes consecutivos tratados con cirugía artroscópica de rodilla. Los pacientes fueron asignados progresivamente a uno de dos grupos: el grupo crioterapia y el grupo control. El promedio de edad fue de 32.5 años (rango: 16 a 53 años). Los pacientes de ambos grupos fueron evaluados durante el periodo postoperatorio temprano (24 horas), en diferentes horas específicas. Los resultados demostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre ambos grupos: los pacientes del grupo crioterapia experimentaron menos dolor, requirieron menos analgésicos y desarrollaron menos inflamación, durante el periodo del estudio. Los hallazgos indican que la crioterapia es un método efectivo para el control de dolor e inflamación, durante el periodo posoperatorio temprano de cirugía artroscópica de rodilla.
