Morbilidad materna e inequidad en tiempos de COVID-19: perspectivas bioéticas

RESUMEN

Propósito/Contexto. La morbilidad materna fue una de las crisis subyacentes previas a la llegada de la pandemia por COVID-19, y las inequidades existentes en países de bajos y medianos ingresos exacerbaron esta y otras crisis. En este artículo de revisión se pretende realizar un análisis bioético de la morbilidad materna en tiempos de la pandemia por COVID-19, especialmente sobre aquellas situaciones suscitadas o agravadas por la pandemia.
Metodología/Enfoque. Esta es una revisión de alcance realizada durante los años del 2020 al 2024, que incluyó artículos relacionados con la atención de gestantes durante la pandemia por COVID-19, publicados entre el año 2019 y 2024, en bases de datos académicas.
Resultados/Hallazgos. En particular, la población gestante más vulnerable tuvo que enfrentar problemáticas sociales más agrestes, lo cual se tradujo en resultados de salud materna menos favorables, con grandes diferencias entre países de bajos y medianos ingresos, frente a países de altos ingresos. En esta problemática, una bioética de intervención, en la propuesta de Volnei Garrafa (2015), se vuelve, más que necesaria, urgente.
Discusión/Conclusiones/Contribuciones. Las inequidades exacerbadas por la pandemia en la salud materna no pueden normalizarse, por el contrario, deben visibilizarse y enfrentarse desde un enfoque bioético en el marco de la justicia social.
