Implementación de nuevas tecnologías en el tratamiento de quemaduras pediátricas: Una revisión narrativa

RESUMEN
Las quemaduras en niños y adultos exhiben diferencias fisiopatológicas derivadas de
las características anatómicas y fisiológicas propias de cada grupo etario, por lo cual,
las quemaduras son graves y requieren atención médica inmediata. El cálculo de la
superficie total quemada precisa es crucial, sin embargo, los métodos actuales como la
tabla de Lund y Browder, la regla de los nueve o los diagramas bidimensionales están
sujetos a una variación entre evaluadores y sobrestiman gravemente el área quemada.
Una estimación inexacta de la extensión quemada genera traslados innecesarios a
centros de quemados, sobrecarga de líquidos, incremento de la estancia hospitalaria
y secuelas a mediano y largo plazo. Para abordar estos desafíos, se ha evaluado una
serie de aplicaciones para teléfonos móviles e inteligencia artificial, así como la implementación
de la realidad virtual, uso de sustitutos cutáneos y terapias bioactivas
que permitan reducir los costos en el área hospitalaria. El desarrollo e implementación
de herramientas terapéuticas ejemplifica cómo la medicina está evolucionando, no
obstante, es importante destacar la necesidad de extender la investigación en este
campo para optimizar el pronóstico y calidad de vida.
