FRAGMENTO
La urgente necesidad de atender de manera específica y práctica los principales problemas de salud pública en nuestro país, hace necesaria la participación de todas las entidades relacionadas con la salud de México. Datos epidemiológicos nacionales recientemente publicados,
1,2 enfatizan y dan cifras preocupantes de la prevalencia de las enfermedades crónicas esenciales (ECEA). En general, se puede afirmar que la prevalencia de todas las ECEA, denotan un crecimiento porcentual importante, sobre todo cuando se comparan con las informadas en la Encuesta Nacional de Enfermedades Crónicas de 1993
1 (ENEC). Una grave consecuencia de este aumento en la prevalencia de ECEA, es el incremento exponencial en la tasa de sus complicaciones, ocupando ya, en la república mexicana, la primera causa de morbilidad y mortalidad del adulto entre 20 y 69 años.
