Impacto de las cardiopatías congénitas en el aprendizaje escolar

RESUMEN
Con frecuencia, los niños cardiópatas tienen problemas en el neurodesarrollo, que se
hacen patentes al iniciar su educación escolar y después de ser operados. Por mucho
tiempo se pensó que solo las cardiopatías cianógenas y complejas podían causar trastornos
en el aprendizaje. El análisis de los factores que repercuten en el neurodesarrollo
del niño enfermo del corazón que se exponen en este trabajo, y la evidencia que se
contrapone a este paradigma, crean la oportunidad para remarcar la importancia del
trabajo multidisciplinario con este tipo de pacientes y sus familias. Los niños cardiópatas
deben ser tratados por un equipo de profesionales de la salud donde exista también,
además de valoraciones médicas, valoraciones neuropsicológicas que puedan orientar
a padres y maestros sobre los apoyos escolares y terapéuticos que necesitan en su
aprendizaje y desarrollar al máximo sus habilidades académicas.
