El cáncer mamario es un problema mundial de salud

Las neoplasias malignas de la glándula mamaria constituyen mundialmente la primera causa de muerte por cáncer en el sexo femenino. En nuestro país, el 10.8% del total de casos de cáncer reportados en distintos hospitales del sector salud durante 1996, se originaron en la glándula mamaria. De éstos, cerca de la mitad (47.2%) se encontraron en pacientes con edades entre los 40 y los 75 años.1
